I have been asked by EXPs to tackle this question of discrimination, as many have expressed their concern about it in the experiential marketing industry. Whether the discrimination is by fellow EXPs, agencies, or consumers, while controversial, this topic is one many shy away from. So, in order to dive into this subject, I wanted to start by defining the term “discrimination”. Defined by Wikipedia, discrimination is “the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.”
Other categories of discrimination include:
- career and parental status;
- disability (including physical, sensory, and intellectual disability, work-related injury, medical conditions, and mental, psychological, and learning disabilities);
- employment activity;
- gender identity, lawful sexual activity, and sexual orientation;
- industrial activity;
- marital status.
Because equality is one of today’s primary social aims, I wanted to spark a healthy debate and provide EXPs with the opportunity to voice their thoughts, concerns, and experiences regarding this subject. T and I also share our experiences as EXPs and provide insight from other EXPs who took the time to share their story. You can check out the full discussion HERE.
Do you believe you have experienced discrimination as a EXP? I have included a FREE checklist below for you to download with the best practices and steps to implement.
